🟡 Estimated Grind Spot
Eastern Shadowmoon Valley is a solo mob grinding location in the northeastern part of Shadowmoon Valley, home to Enraged Air Spirits scattered across open terrain north and east of the Altar of Sha’tar. It is the primary ground-accessible Primal Air farming spot in Shadowmoon Valley — and since Primal Air is consistently the highest value Primal on most TBC Classic servers, this location carries strong gold potential for both leveling players and max level farmers.
All data on this page is estimated based on mob characteristics, drop rates, and zone data. This spot has not yet been personally verified through a recorded session. Figures will be updated with verified data once tested.

About This Location
Enraged Air Spirits are concentrated in the eastern reaches of Shadowmoon Valley, specifically north and east of the Altar of Sha’tar and east of the Sanctum of the Stars. The open terrain gives them a wider spread than the compact elemental clusters at The Fel Pits, but the respawn rate is fast enough that you usually don’t have to wait between pulls.
Competition here is consistently lower than Primal Fire spots or the Elemental Plateau in Nagrand — most farmers gravitate toward higher density locations, leaving Eastern Shadowmoon Valley as a reliable uncontested alternative. If competition does become a problem, switching to Primal Fire in the central zone at The Fel Pits or Hand of Gul’dan is a natural fallback without leaving Shadowmoon Valley.
Mobs
Enraged Air Spirit — sole target in Eastern Shadowmoon Valley. Air elemental, level 69-70. Light to medium HP pool — faster kill speed than earth or fire elementals at equivalent levels. No dangerous crowd control abilities. Wide spawn spacing means pulls are consistently isolated with minimal risk of accidental chain aggro.
Watch for a rare elemental spawn that occasionally appears in the area — avoid engaging it as it does not drop Motes and will only cause unnecessary downtime.
Mob characteristics: air elemental type, level 69-70, lighter HP pools than other Shadowmoon Valley elemental types. Clean isolated pulls throughout.
Estimated XP per Hour
- Estimated XP/hour: 65,000 – 80,000
- Based on approximately 540 XP per mob at level 69-70
- Realistic solo kill rate: approximately 2 mobs per minute due to wide mob spacing
- No rested XP, AoE pulls, or group modifiers included
XP/hour reflects the spread of mobs across open terrain rather than a compact camp. The lighter HP pools of air elementals partially compensate for the wider routing required between pulls. This spot is at its best as a dedicated gold farming session rather than a pure XP race.
Estimated Gold per Hour
Gold income at Eastern Shadowmoon Valley comes primarily from:
- Motes of Air — approximately 27% drop rate per Enraged Air Spirit kill
- Vendor trash — minimal elemental drops beyond Motes
- Occasional green item drops
Estimated gold/hour: 80 – 110g. Enraged Air Spirits have a Mote of Air drop rate of around 27% which is among the stronger rates for ground-accessible air elemental farming in Outland. Primal Air commands premium prices throughout TBC Classic due to its use in Alchemy transmutes, Leatherworking leg armors, and multiple high end crafting recipes — making the gold/hour estimate here competitive with humanoid spots despite lower mob density.
Upper estimate assumes strong Primal Air AH prices. Check your server economy before every session.

Eastern SMV vs Other Shadowmoon Valley Elemental Spots
Shadowmoon Valley offers four elemental farming locations at ground level. Eastern SMV fits a specific role in that lineup:
- Best for: Dedicated Primal Air farming with low competition
- Trade-off: Lower mob density than The Fel Pits, lower XP/hour than humanoid spots
- Switch to: The Fel Pits or Hand of Gul’dan if Primal Fire outperforms Primal Air on your server that day
The flexibility to shift between elemental spots within the same zone based on daily AH prices is one of Shadowmoon Valley’s core strengths as a farming destination.
Grinding Tips
- Run a wide circular route across the northeastern terrain to cover all spawn clusters efficiently
- Light HP pools on air elementals reward fast sequential kills over careful single-target play
- Avoid the rare elemental spawn — it does not drop Motes and is not worth the engagement
- Check Primal Air AH price before the session — this is typically the highest value Primal but prices fluctuate
- Low competition makes off-peak hours less critical here than at other elemental spots in the zone
Verdict
Eastern Shadowmoon Valley delivers an estimated 65,000 – 80,000 XP/hour and 80 – 110g/hour through consistent Mote of Air drops at a 27% rate. The lower mob density compared to The Fel Pits is offset by reliably low competition and the premium value of Primal Air throughout the expansion. A strong choice for players pushing toward level 70 who want to stockpile the highest value Primal in TBC Classic without competing for spawn points.
