Why This Spot

The Razormane Quilboar at Thorn Hill, northeast of Crossroads, are the natural first grind location in the Barrens for a Horde Rogue. The key strength of this spot is the direct overlap between grind targets and kill quest requirements — every mob you kill progresses both your XP per hour and your quest completion simultaneously. No wasted kills.

The caster mob types — Thornweavers and Water Seekers — are cloth wearers with low armor, making them efficient Backstab targets at this level. The near-equal kill counts of 36 Thornweavers and 35 Water Seekers across a 30 minute verified session suggests a natural loop exists between the two caster spawn clusters, minimising downtime between pulls.

Entry Level Matters

⚠️ Recommended Entry: Level 14 This session was verified at level 12–13 with mobs ranging from level 10–12. At level 12 the miss penalty and dodge chance are noticeable, and stealth detection is less reliable against equal-level mobs. Entering at level 14 keeps all mobs green, reduces miss chance, improves stealth reliability and maximises Backstab consistency. The XP/hour figure of 15,300 was achieved under slightly suboptimal entry conditions — readers following the recommended entry level of 14 should see improved results.

⚔️ Ambush Unlocks at Level 18

This session and the recommended entry level of 14 both use Backstab as the primary stealth opener — Ambush is not yet available. Ambush becomes available at level 18, requires Stealth, must be used from behind the target, requires a dagger in the main hand, and deals 250% weapon damage plus 70. It awards 1 combo point. Expect a noticeable damage increase when transitioning to Ambush at level 18, well after you have moved on from this spot. Wowhead

Quest Links

Disrupt the Attacks — picked up from Thork at the Crossroads. Kill quota: 8 Razormane Water Seekers, 8 Razormane Thornweavers, 3 Razormane Hunters. All targets are found at Thorn Hill, northeast of Crossroads. The kill requirements align directly with the grind targets at this location — every kill progresses both XP per hour and quest completion simultaneously. This is the core of the GrindClassic approach: no wasted kills. Wowhead

Rewards: 900 XP + 100 Orgrimmar reputation.

Follow-up — The Disruption Ends: After completing Disrupt the Attacks, Thork sends you after Kreenig Snarlsnout, the Razormane leader behind the caravan raids, found northeast of Crossroads just south of the Durotar road. The quest also requires killing additional Razormane tribe members, extending the value of this grind location into a second session. Wowhead

Mob Priority — Subtlety Rogue

Priority 1 — Razormane Thornweaver (caster — cloth) Cloth wearer, lowest effective armor of the three mob types. Open from stealth with Backstab, follow up with Sinister Strike. Primary target for every pull. Thornweavers can apply Faerie Fire, reducing your armor — prioritise these to minimise the debuff uptime. Wowhead

Priority 2 — Razormane Water Seeker (caster — cloth) Near-identical profile to the Thornweaver. Cloth wearer, low armor, efficient Backstab target. Water Seekers can cast Creeping Mould disease — not dangerous at this level but worth being aware of. Secondary priority but equally valuable for quest progression and XP. Wowhead

Priority 3 — Razormane Hunter + Wolf Hunters come paired with a pet wolf add, making each pull a two-target encounter. Options at this level: Wowhead

  • Sap the Hunter if available, kill the wolf first, then finish the Hunter
  • Open on the Hunter with Backstab and deal with the wolf as it closes

Less efficient than the caster types but required for quest completion. Keep Hunter kills to the minimum required — 3 for Disrupt the Attacks — and focus remaining time on Thornweavers and Water Seekers.

Linen Cloth

🧵 ~120 Linen Cloth Per Hour 60 linen cloth dropped across the 30 minute session — approximately 78% drop rate across all kills. Linen cloth is actively sought by Tailors and players leveling First Aid, making it a consistent secondary income source alongside XP. Check your server’s Auction House for current stack pricing before deciding whether to vendor or list.

Professions

Skinning Razormane Quilboar are not skinnable. Nearby plainstriders and raptors along the Barrens roads offer skinning opportunities between camp loops if leather income is a priority, though this will reduce XP/hour by breaking the grind rhythm.

Grind Loop

(To be added following OBS review — spawn positions of Thornweaver and Water Seeker clusters, natural stealth reset points on the loop, and patrol timing for Hunter packs.)

Next Location

Once Disrupt the Attacks and The Disruption Ends are complete and mobs begin turning grey, transition to Venture Co. at Sludge Fen — recommended entry at level 17–18.

The Venture Co. casters at Sludge Fen are cloth wearers with low armor and strong quest overlap from Crossroads. By level 17–18 your Rogue toolkit will be more developed, making the transition a natural step up in efficiency.
