Location
Silmyr Lake is located in the northern part of Terokkar Forest, just outside of Shattrath City. The lake hosts Shimmering Eels, with additional Basilisk mobs patrolling the shoreline.
The open water layout makes movement and pulling straightforward, but fairly slow. Respawns are fast enough to sustain continuous grinding loops with minimal downtime.
Competition may increase during peak hours due to Motes of Water farming demand.

Mobs
- Shimmerscale Eel
Mob characteristics:
- Low HP pools
- Melee-based damage
- No crowd control abilities
- Water combat only
These mobs are easy to manage for most solo classes. Since all combat is done in the water/underwater, it is preferred to have underwater breathing skill or potions.
Estimated XP per Hour
Estimated XP/hour: 60,000 – 70,000
Based on:
- ~378 XP per mob at level 61–63
- Realistic solo kill rate: ~1.5–1.8 mobs per minute
- No rested XP, AoE pulls, or group modifiers
XP/hour is lower than dense humanoid camps, due to low health and easy killing of Eels. However, the grind spot remains stable due to predictable mob behavior and fast respawns.
Estimated Gold per Hour – Mote drop advantage
Gold income at Silmyr Lake comes from:
- Raw silver drops
- Vendor trash
- Motes of Water
- Occasional green items
Estimated gold/hour: 180 gold
The upper range assumes:
- Average mote drop rates (22 Motes of Water in 30 minutes)
- Stable server economy for Primal Water
- Acquired during high competition
Motes of Water scales well with server prices, making this spot especially strong on active economies.
Loot during 30-minute sessions, including a couple of Herbalism nodes around the lake.

Why Silmyr Lake Works
- Valuable Mote of Water drops
- Water terrain, which makes it less ideal for some classes
- Very high respawn rates
- Low repair costs
- Strong gold scaling with server economy
This spot excels when gold value matters more than raw XP speed.
Grinding Tips
- Pull mobs from ranged, mainly to tag mobs faster than competition
- Track Motes of Water prices before committing long sessions
- Keep swimming in circles to cover all locations of the lake and make use of fast respawns
- Avoid underwater combat where possible, but if your class has access to underwater breathing skills or you can bring underwater breathing potions, you have an advantage over competition. Ranged classes will work strong aswell, as they can remain above water
- Works well for casters and sustain-heavy classes
Verdict
Silmyr Lake is a high-value Shimmering Eels grind spot in Terokkar Forest, offering 60k to 70k XP per hour and up to 180 gold per hour with average Motes of Water prices of around 2 gold each.
It’s an excellent choice for players who want to combine leveling, gold generation, and profession material farming in a single location.
