The Fel Pits Mob Grinding – XP/Hour & Gold/Hour | TBC Classic

The Fel Pits is a solo mob grinding location in the central part of Shadowmoon Valley, home to two elemental mob types occupying different elevation levels within the same crescent-shaped area. It is the only spot in TBC Classic where Primal Fire and Primal Earth can be farmed simultaneously at ground level, making it uniquely flexible for players who want to target whichever element commands the higher Auction House price on any given day.

All data on this page is estimated based on mob characteristics, drop rates, and zone data. This spot has not yet been personally verified through a recorded session. Figures will be updated with verified data once tested.

About This Location

The Fel Pits sit in the heart of Shadowmoon Valley in a crescent-shaped area packed with both Enraged Fire Spirits and Enraged Earth Spirits. Fire Spirits are concentrated in the lower sections while Earth Spirits occupy the upper elevations. The layout allows players to rotate between both mob types within a single circular route, farming two Primal types without changing location.

The area sits southeast of the Altar of Damnation and falls naturally on the Shadowmoon Valley leveling path, making it accessible to players progressing through the zone at 68-70 without any dedicated detour.

Mobs

  • Enraged Fire Spirit — fire elemental, level 68-69. Concentrated in the lower sections of the Fel Pits crescent. Casts Fel Fireball which inflicts fire damage, and can Enrage — increasing physical damage and attack speed for 2 minutes. Interrupt Fel Fireball when possible and be aware of the Enrage mechanic on lower HP — burst the mob down quickly once it enrages to minimise sustained damage intake.
  • Enraged Earth Spirit — earth elemental, level 68-69. Found on the upper elevation of the Fel Pits. When slain, breaks apart into an Enraged Earth Shard. Casts Fiery Boulder — hurling a boulder at an enemy inflicting physical damage. No dangerous crowd control abilities. Interrupt Fiery Boulder when possible to reduce incoming damage.

Mob characteristics: elemental type, level 68–69, medium to high HP pools. Both mob types have manageable mechanics with consistent interrupt priorities.

Estimated XP per Hour

  • Estimated XP/hour: 70,000 – 85,000
  • Based on approximately 540 XP per mob at level 68-69
  • Realistic solo kill rate: approximately 2 mobs per minute due to higher HP elemental pools
  • No rested XP, AoE pulls, or group modifiers included

XP/hour is lower than humanoid spots at equivalent levels due to elemental HP pools reducing kill speed. The trade-off is consistent dual Primal income on top of every session, making total value per hour competitive with pure XP grinding locations.

Estimated Gold per Hour

Gold income at The Fel Pits comes primarily from:

  • Motes of Fire — approximately 26-27% drop rate per Enraged Fire Spirit kill
  • Motes of Earth — approximately 26-27% drop rate per Enraged Earth Spirit kill
  • Vendor trash — elementals carry less trash than humanoids but some coin income exists
  • Occasional green item drops

Estimated gold/hour ranges by target:

PriorityTargetEst. Motes/HourEst. Gold/Hour
Fire onlyEnraged Fire Spirit≈3070 – 90g
Earth onlyEnraged Earth Spirit≈2855 – 75g
Mixed routingBoth≈25 per element60 – 85g

Mixed routing slightly reduces Motes of each individual element but maximises flexibility — if one Primal spikes in value mid-session you already have stock of both.

The Dual Primal Advantage

The Fel Pits is the only ground-accessible location in TBC Classic offering two Primal types in the same farming area. Before every session check your server’s Auction House for both Primal Fire and Primal Earth. If one significantly outperforms the other, focus that elevation. If prices are similar, run the full crescent route and accumulate both.

Primal Fire typically commands stronger prices than Primal Earth due to higher crafting demand across Blacksmithing, Enchanting, and Alchemy recipes. However server economy varies — never assume, always check.

Grinding Tips

  • Interrupt Fel Fireball on Enraged Fire Spirits immediately every pull
  • Burst Enraged Fire Spirits down quickly once they Enrage to minimise damage taken
  • Interrupt Fiery Boulder on Enraged Earth Spirits when possible
  • Run a circular route through the crescent — lower sections for Fire, upper elevation for Earth
  • Check AH prices before the session to decide whether to prioritise one element or run mixed routing
  • Low to medium competition makes this a reliable uncontested spot particularly at off-peak hours

Verdict

The Fel Pits delivers an estimated 70,000 – 85,000 XP/hour and 60 – 90g/hour, with gold income driven entirely by Mote drops from two simultaneous Primal types. It won’t match humanoid spots on raw XP speed but the dual Primal opportunity is unmatched at ground level in Shadowmoon Valley — and the spot retains full relevance at max level for dedicated Primal Fire and Earth farmers long after the leveling phase ends.

These figures are estimated and will be updated with verified session data once personally tested.
