Verified Grind Session

This grind spot has been tested and recorded during TBC launch, with real-time XP/hour tracking and loot results. Verified metrics from gameplay footage:

  • 77k XP/hour
  • ≈100 gold per hour

This grind spot has been tested during a 30-minute solo session.

Location

Void Ridge is located in the far southeastern part of Hellfire Peninsula. The area spawns over a large area with multiple rifts that spawn Void creatures.

Core Mob

  • Collapsing Voidwalker – explodes on kill or after casting
  • Vacillating Voidcaller – interrupt recommended

Mob Details:

  • Level range: 60–62
  • Mob type: Demon
  • HP pool: Medium, Voidcallers low
  • Damage: Melee or casting. Melee Voidwalker has an explode mechanic

Verified XP per Hour

  • Verified XP/hour: 77k XP/Hour in 30 minute grinding session
  • Average XP per mob (non-rested): ~560
  • Realistic solo kill rate: ~2.2 mobs per minute
  • No rested XP, AoE farming, or group bonuses included

XP/hour is lower than high-density humanoid camps but remains consistent due to predictable mob behavior and manageable incoming damage.

Calculated Gold per Hour

Gold income at Void Ridge comes from:

  • Vendor trash and raw silver drops
  • Occasional green items
  • Motes of Shadow (average 1 mote of shadow / minute)
  • Estimated gold/hour: 100 – 125 gold per hour
    • Adjusted for current Primal Shadow prices at 22g per piece
  • Upper range assumes occasional Mote of Shadow drops

Void Ridge performs better as a gold-efficient grind spot than a pure XP race.

Why Void Ridge Works

  • Demon mobs with predictable attack patterns
  • Lower competition than quest-heavy areas
  • Chance at valuable Motes of Shadow
  • Consistent respawns
  • Solo-friendly pull spacing

Grinding Tips

  • Focus on steady single-target pulls
  • Carry shadow resistance consumables if needed
  • Use interrupts on Vacillating Voidcaller
  • Avoid explode damage from Collapsing Voidwalker by walking away or range kills
  • Maintain a circular route to control respawns

Character Context

  • Level: 60
  • Class: Shaman
  • Spec: Enchancement
  • Gear: Average Quest / Azeroth Dungeon Gear / PvP Prepatch weapons

This grind test was performed on a leveling character using realistic solo gear.
No consumables, world buffs, rested XP, or group bonuses were used.

Verdict

Void Ridge is a solid solo grind spot in Hellfire Peninsula, offering 75k – 80k XP per hour and around 100 gold per hour through demon grinding and Mote of Shadow drops. While it doesn’t match the XP speed of dense humanoid camps, it compensates with lower competition and better gold potential.
